Tomorrow Seems Like Yesterday

by Peter Galperin

/
1.
(V1) You point your fingers at everyone, that’s how you play the game. Accusations fly left and right, but you never take the blame. You put on a show of indignation each and every time... That’s just the nature, the nature of your kind. (V2) Your only talent is to hide the truth from ever seeing light. And you act as if your innocence is a god-damn-given right. And when the facts are shown to you, you stumble like you’re blind... that’s just the nature, the nature of your kind. (B1) While your flunkies tell brazen lies without an ounce of shame, wasting our time and our trust. Like a Charlatan with phony claims you think you’ve pulled it off, you’re so sure that you’re smarter than us. (V3) But we’re on to you and your fog of lies, the truth is breaking through. Soon you’ll lose your power, and you’ll lose your head, this won’t end well for you. You’ll finally get what you deserve, and we’ll toast to your decline... and that’s just the nature, the nature of your kind. (B2) In a better world we'd be on to you before you'd even start twisting what's right and what's wrong. 'Cause when it comes to cons we've learned a thing or two, so you better find a place to hide and crawl back to where you belong. (V4) that’s just the nature, the nature of your kind.

(Verse1) My eyesight’s not quite as sharp, and my hearing’s going fast. I fall asleep before dark, thinking every breath might be my last.
My energy’s not nearly what it used to be. We’re all running out of time, but I never thought that would happen to me. The years are flying by, and tomorrow seems like yesterday. One minute you’re full of life, and the next you’re in the grave. (Chorus) ‘Cause you’re never too young, to start feeling old. You’re never too young, to start feeling old. (Verse2) I noticed one or two changes by the time I turned thirty-five. A late night out on the town left me feeling more dead than alive. I’ve realized with age you need to get more rest, ‘cause by the time I hit forty-five I wasn’t looking quite my best. I came late to discover, we’re not immortal afterall. The springtime of my youth never prepared me for the fall. (bridge) Talk about a cruel twist of fate, while we make big plans and celebrate. But longevity’s not ours to choose, even life’s big winners eventually lose… (verse3) I’ll never say it out loud, but getting old is so unfair. Those kind of thoughts aren’t allowed, and just remind me of my thinning hair. But there’s a lesson here once you reach this stage. A wasted youth is a shame, better not make that mistake in your old age. The years are flying by, and tomorrow seems like yesterday. One minute you’re full of life, and the next you’re in the grave.

(verse 1) I don’t know why it feels so good to see you having fun, Even when it’s dark and gloomy, you’re always out in the sun. It’s a mystery to me but there’s a special glow around you, It might be just the lighting, but I like everything that you do. (chorus) I thought I’d seen the last of you, I was sure we’d never meet again, but you keep popping up, my little digital friend. (verse 2) You’ve got a glamorous life, I can see you’ve had a busy day. You’ve get so many likes, it’s hard to turn my eyes away. You’ve always got a smile, I like to think it’s just for me, But I know I’m not the only guy who’s getting what he needs. (bridge) this is no way to live, fulfilling my dreams online, I’m not even sure you really exist. I know I should walk away, but that takes a stronger will than mine. It’s just a click or two, and I can’t resist.
4.
(verse 1) I might never learn the names of all the flowers,
or be able to identify every bird. The night constellations will remain a mystery to me, Too much knowledge is a dangerous thing… haven’t you heard. (verse 2) I may never reach the summit of Mount Everest. Or travel the length of the Amazon. I’m just trying to remember the best way to get back home, ‘cause every place I recognize… may soon be gone. (chorus) But I’m okay, it’s alright… if I never learn another thing. I’m okay… if there are places I’ll never go. I’m okay, it’s alright… no matter what tomorrow brings, I’m okay… ‘cause I know what I don’t need to know. (verse 3) I try not to listen to the politicians,
screaming and shouting in my newsfeed. They’re all part of the problem, and that’s never gonna change, It’s just a bunch of white noise… that I don’t need. (verse 4) I never claimed to have all the answers, and I’m the last person to give anyone advice. But one thing I’ve learned, is how to tune the world out, ‘cause not being in the know… is kinda nice.
5.
(verse 1)
I finally get experienced, only to be told I’m obsolete. Please don’t say that I’m confused upstairs, I’m just a little slow on my feet. The years have really added up, and I’m the only one who’s keeping track, So you can live for this moment, while I look back. (chorus) Another drink for friendship, ‘cause we’ve been friends for way too long,
Another drink for friendship, we’ll keep drinking ‘til the dawn.
(verse 2)
Did you hear that the news today, the same old cries and lies indeed. But as long as your around, I’ve got all that I need. But in spite of the long life I’ve lived, I don’t feel too bad, Thank god for the good times that we’ve had. (bridge) I’m not dead yet, just in a general state of decline, I’m no different from anybody else. Though I wasn’t born yesterday, the future might still be mine, At least that’s… what I try to tell myself. (final chorus) Another drink for friendship, ‘cause we’ve been friends for way too long, Another drink for friendship, we’ll keep drinking ‘til the dawn…or until we’re gone.
6.
(verse 1) Let me tell you the tale of a world gone by, let me sing you the song of our lives. It’s a story of tribulation, and triumph over time, filled with heroes and villains you’ll recognize... (chorus) And when we celebrate our victories and cry through our defeats,
may we never have to look back with regret. We’ll be true to each other and kind to those in need,
knowing this life is as good as it gets. (verse 2)
We all want happiness, we all want a better life. To be held, to be loved, to be romanced. If a soul can cure the heart of the loneliest of aches, maybe all we need is just a second chance.
(bridge) The earth is still spinning everyday around the sun, but the land is gray, the sky no longer blue.
When did we realize the damage we had done would change forever... the world we knew.

Won't Let Go 03:55
(verse 1) I had a dream that we could build a new life from the ruins of the world that used to be. But it's been so long since we've had much to hope for, Can't let these people down when they're looking up to me… (chorus) So I won’t let go, While hope’s still in my heart, and faith’s still in my soul. (verse 2) I worked so hard to give them what they needed,Please don’t condemn me if the truth got in my way. We’re hanging on, though I don’t know how much longer, Time might be running out, for all of us today…
(chorus) But I won’t let go, While hope’s still in my heart, and faith’s still in my soul. ‘Cause I won’t let go, There’s nothing left to say, there’s nothing more to know. (bridge)
I could never tell them that all is lost.
I could never tell them that we won't be saved.
But I willing to pay the ultimate price, And take these secret to my grave…
